  • As the MHRD report says that the exam is going to be radically different from the previous GATE examinations. Reports say that keeping in tune with GRE, TOEFL and other international level competitive examinations that the structure of this examination is made.
  • Another fact that has come up through various sources says that instead of a single paper there will be two papers from now on. The first paper is likely to resemble the GRE paper while the second one is likely to be a subject based examination that would cover all the major topics.
  • The first paper is like to be named as GATE-Pre which would include aptitude and maths and also some objective questions from the subjects. The scores would be like the GRE and Public Sector Undertakings might recruit on the basis of these scores.
  • The second paper is completely subject based and the M.Tech admissions would be done on the basis of the score in the second paper. One would be eligible to appear for the second paper only if one qualifies the cutoff of the first paper. The structure resembles the IIT exam system.
  • Another major change in GATE 2014 is that it would take into account the previous degree marks for making the final scores. This is also very similar to the IIT’s latest examination pattern.
All these new structures and schemes will be implemented from 2014 and sources say that the first paper would be conducted online while second paper would be written or offline.
