There are two stages in the Services Selection Board – the screening test is the first round and the second
round comprises of three different tests, namely, the psychology test,
the GTO or Group Testing Officers test and the personal interview.
SSB Screening Test:
The screening test round is the most typical part of the SSB examination and most of the candidates get eliminated in the first round itself. The screening test result is solely dependent on the result of the intelligence tests and also the PPDT (Picture Perception and Discussion Test) and because of the mounting competition it gets difficult to ace.
Some idea about the
PPDT or Picture Perception and Deception Test has been shared below for a
better understanding of the examination and the do’s and don’ts of it.
PPDT Do’s and Don’ts:
- In the picture perception and deception test what one needs to do is to write a story based on a given picture. This picture will be shown to the candidate for 4 minutes only and later this picture has to be discussed in the group discussion and make a common story out of it.
- It is very important that your story is relevant to the picture that is shown to you and do not go beyond it. Make sure that you do not use cliché tic names such as ‘Ram’ and ‘Sham’ in your story. Surely, the names of your friends are much different than these. Try to sound as realistic as possible.
- Try to think out of the box. This is what impresses the examiners. Do not make your story moralistic giving incorporating plots like a person giving up engineering to do social work in the village and then rewarded at the end! Such stereotypical plots do not impress the examiners at all. Make your story enticing and thought provoking rather than cliché tic and mundane.
- When you narrate your story, be loud, clear and confident. Try to be dynamic and per formative while narrating your tale. A good narration fetches a lot of marks. While others narrate their tale, listen to them carefully and attentively.
- In the group discussion it is necessary to frame a story with the help of others. It is always recommended to stay patient and tolerant in the group discussion and not shout to establish your point. The discussion should be fair and it the duty of both the speaker and the listener not to turn the room into a fish market.
The PPDT is not a difficult round to ace but one has to be meticulous and precise to impress the assessors.
