About Combined Defence Services (CDS):
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination twice in a year. This year too, UPSC is going to conducts Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination for recruitment of various vacancies under Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officcers Training Academy.

CDS Eligibility Details:

Nationality: In order to apply for UPSC CDS Examinations, A candidates must be either
  1. A citizen of India, or
  2. A subject of Nepal, or
  3. A subject of Bhutan, or
  4. A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  5. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Srilanka or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Make sure, candidates belonging to categories (2), (3), (4) and (5) will be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
Age Limit: Check Age limitations for CDS Examinations.
  1. For Indian Military Academy: Unmarried male candidates’ birth date should not earlier than 2nd January, 1990 and not later than 1st July, 1995.
  2. For Indian Naval Academy: Unmarried male candidates’ birth date should not earlier than 2nd January, 1990 and not later than 1st July, 1995.
  3. For Air Force Academy: Unmarried male candidates’ birth date should not earlier than 2nd January, 1991 and not later than 1st July, 1995.
  4. For Officers’ Training Academy (SSC Course for Men): Married or unmarried male candidates’ candidates’ birth date should not earlier than 2nd January, 1989 and not later than 1st July, 1995.
  5. For Officers’ Training Academy (SSC Non-Technical Course for Women): Unmarried Women candidates’ birth date should not earlier than 2nd January, 1989 and not later than 1st July, 1995.

Note: Issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorcees who have not got married once again are eligible for UPSC CDS examination.
Educational Qualification:
  1. For Indian Military Academy: Candidates must possess Degree from any recognized University or equivalent.
  2. For Indian Naval Academy: Degree in Engineering is applicable.
  3. For Air Force Academy: Candidates must possess Degree from any recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering.
  4. Note: All those candidates who are studying in the final years Degree course and have yet to pass the final year Degree examination are also eligible to apply for CDS Examinations.

Physical Standards: Candidates should be physically fit as per the physical standards for admission to Combined Defence Services Examination.
